It wouldn't be so much a speed controller as a power controller. And you'd be stuck with only the discrete values of available PTC's, no adjustment available without extra circuitry. They could work in certain instances, particularly if the mechanical load is fixed. Being as they are a thermal regulator, note that PTC trip current is affected by ambient temperature.Can PTC being used as starting driver or speed controller for motors?
